ARCA RecycliNG

Where We Operate

ARCA has been a pioneer in appliance energy efficiency programs for over 40 years. We have worked with hundreds of utilities throughout the United States and Canada and have recycled over four million appliances. The map below shows the 26 states where we have active recycling programs represented in dark green. Stars represent our appliance recycling facilities.

With a 40 year history of leadership in energy efficiency, ARCA is the trusted source for appliance recycling programs. ARCA offers state-of-the-art recycling services designed to guarantee that every appliance collected by ARCA is fully de-manufactured. This includes ensuring all hazardous materials are removed, stored, transported and disposed of in a responsible manner in accordance with federal, state and local rules and regulations.

The environmental benefits of appliance recycling include:

  • Safe management of hazardous materials.
  • Reduction of energy consumption.
  • Reduction of emissions of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases.
  • Prevention of release of PCBs, mercury, batteries and oil.
  • Reduction of materials entering landfills.
  • Recovering of scrap metal and other recyclables.

Recycling refrigerators and freezers prevents many million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gases in two ways. Emissions are indirectly reduced by reducing the energy consumed by operating older energy-guzzling appliances and by creating new raw materials for manufacturing. Emissions are directly reduced by safely disposing of refrigerants and foam-blowing agents instead of releasing them into the atmosphere.

ARCA has years of experience helping Texans get rid of their old, energy hogging refrigerators and freezers. We've worked with Austin Energy, CPS and Oncor. We're currently operating a similar program with El Paso Electric.
